This condition is known as Pityriasis Rosea.
The cause of Pityriasis Rosea is not known but it is suspected to be caused by a virus.
Treatment of Pityriasis Rosea
Since it usually clears by itself, the treatment of pityriasis rosea is symptomatic and includes the use of:
1. Moisturizers since the skin tends to be dry. Aqueous cream can be used as a soap substitute when bathing.
2. Applying corticosteroid creams like 1% Hydrocortisone cream on the skin to relieve the itch.
3. Taking antihistamine tablets like the non-sedating Loratadine You can also take the sedating Diphenhydramine HCl at night if the itch interferes with your sleep.
